Are insurance concerns stopping you offering work experience?
Three quarters of business respondents to the survey published this week by the British Chambers of Commerce said that work experience develops “effective skills for the workplace”.
However, with 36% of businesses offering no work experience of any kind, it’s clear that the decision to offer placements to students under 16 is far from straightforward.
The survey’s findings revealed that firms not currently offering work experience would be encouraged to do so by having more information about what is required (36%), someone to facilitate the relationship with the school (33%) and clarity on the benefits to their business (19%).
For many business, it’s possible that the insurance implications of allowing minors in to the workplace could be a key factor. A short chat to your Insurance Broker should be able to clarify what could be offered in terms of work experience, in turn benefitting both you and your workforce of the future.
