Fraud & Cyber Crime Figures Released

A report published this week by the Office for National Statistics highlights that, with more than one in 10 adults defrauded in the 12 months to the end of March, we are more likely to be a victim of fraud than any other type of crime.

This equates to a staggering 6 million fraud and cyber crimes committed in England and Wales, including internet-enabled devices being infected with viruses, hacking, bank and credit account fraud.

It’s the first time that fraud questions have been included in the official Crime Survey for England and Wales and it reveals the true extent of the risk posed to individuals and businesses alike.

As an insurance broker and risk advisor Bridge are committed to keeping their clients updated as to these potential new areas of risk exposure which can cause major disruption and result in significant unbudgeted costs and reputational damage.

These include:

  • Discussing with clients the changing nature of cyber crime and how this could affect their business
  • Exploring what steps to undertake to ensure their business, including their staff, are protected from avoidable risk
  • Ensuring clients have access to the range of insurance products available to cover them in the event that they are affected by cyber fraud or crime.
